Before I wrote Dangerous, I hadn’t given a whole lot of thought to book reviews. Oh, sure, I always saw them pop up on Amazon and the like, but it never occurred to me just how important they are.
Now that I’m learning everything from the “other side” of the book world, I know that a review ISN’T just a review!
As you might expect, good reviews make my heart flutter. Sometimes, I stop and wonder, “are they really talking about something that I wrote?!” On the other hand, though, the bad ones sting. After all, this book is my “baby”. If someone doesn’t like it, I temporarily question if I’m REALLY cut out to be an author.
Luckily, I’ve learned to take each book review to heart — whether it’s good or bad. In fact, I believe that either type of feedback is a great way to move forward. And, quite honestly, I don’t expect every single review to be a good one. After all, what do YOU think when you see a book with nothing but five-star reviews on Amazon? Do you REALLY believe they’re legitimate?
Book reviews are simply another part of the journey I’m on. Going through them is a highly emotional process, but they’re also something I can’t imagine being able to succeed without. So, the next time you read a book, consider writing a review. You don’t have to write anything long or fancy; a few quick sentences will do. To you, the experience may cost you a couple of minutes, but to the author, hearing your thoughts could be life-changing!
