With all of the stress I’ve been under lately, the recent bank holiday couldn’t have come at a better time. For a few days, I got to push all the bad stuff aside and focus solely on the good stuff. Specifically, I got to travel back in time to the good ol’ days!
Growing up, I spent lots of time by the sea. To this day, I can still taste the ice cream and the fish and chips (which, for some reason, always seem to be better at the seaside!). I can still see the street entertainers, the “Kiss Me Quick” hats, and the striped deck chairs. I can still even hear the old song, “Oh I do like to be beside the seaside, oh I do like to be beside the sea”. Back then, it seemed like the sun never stopped shining, and the Red Devils flying over Dagenham could always leave me speechless — no matter how many times I saw them!
Over this past long weekend, some good friends and I went to the Clacton AirShow. It’s a tradition we’ve enjoyed for years! Even though we’re a little bit older now than we were during those good ol’ days, it’s still so exciting to see the beachfront mobbed with people. For a little while, I felt like a kid again! The Red Devils were performing their traditional acrobatics, the sun was shining, and all of the old magic still made my heart flutter.
Even if you’re not lucky enough to live by the seaside, do yourself a favor, and tap into your old nostalgia every now and then. Sometimes, the best way to spend your day is by reliving the good ol’ days!
