Another Halloween is almost upon us, and I can’t seem to forget about the holiday, no matter what I do! After all, the air is getting crisper, and the days are getting shorter. These tell-tale signs always let me know that Halloween is coming, and no matter how busy I am, I love to get in the “spirit” of things!
I can remember back to my younger days, back when a bed sheet sufficed as a ghost costume. Today, Halloween seems a lot more commercialised (or maybe Americanised?), with the costume, decoration, and confectionery companies raking in a ton of money! Where did all the simple stuff go?!
Even though I’m all grown up, I never get tired of this holiday. In fact, I put so much effort into organizing everything, sorting out the costumes, and carving the pumpkins that I’m exhausted before all of the REAL fun begins! Still, though, having a bonfire in the garden and telling ghost stories is so much fun that I would never even dream of giving it up!
There’s one part of Halloween that scares me a bit — and not in a good way, like the ghosts and goblins do! I wish there was more of an emphasis on safety and awareness on Halloween. Kids (and some parents!) get so caught up in the fun of it all that they forget to watch out for dangerous situations. So, if you’re taking the kids trick-or-treating, keep an eye peeled for anything that doesn’t seem quite right. After all, bad guys don’t take the day off!
Scary warnings aside, I hope all of you have a happy Halloween! Hopefully, the little “monsters” in your life won’t go on too much of a sugar-high!
