I sure didn’t!
If you think coming up with a compelling storyline seems hard, you’d be amazed at everything that goes on behind the scenes. That book you curl up with at the pool is the result of lots of meetings, drafts, edits, and decisions. I’ve spent decades dreaming about becoming a best-selling author, and yet even I didn’t know how much work was involved!
When you’re an author, you don’t just get to sit down and write. There are deadlines that have to be met — like all of the chapters I’ve got to get to my editor by Friday! In the meantime, I’m waiting for all of the book cover designs to arrive.
And, of course, there are the nerves that come with having your book edited in the first place! After all, I’m not the only one that has to fall in love with my characters! If my editor wants things tweaked, it’s back to the drawing board (or should I say “writing board”?) for me!
Amidst all of the anxiety and the deadlines, though, I’m having a great time! Creating a book to complement Dangerous is so much fun. I love seeing where the characters go! (Luckily, you won’t have to wait much longer to see where these characters wind up. I’m hoping to have the new book out by the end of the summer.)
Once this book is done, I’ll start working on another one — the third installment of my trilogy — and I’ll get to go through all of these emotions again. It may be a ton of work, but to me, there’s nothing better than writing “The End” when everything is said and done.
It’s all a dream come true!
