If you’ve ever written anything before — or done ANY major project from scratch — you know that it can be a rollercoaster of emotions. You’re up, you’re down, you’re sometimes turned upside down. Maybe this is what the Beatles REALLY meant when they sang about a “Magical Mystery Tour”!
The rollercoaster of my third book is flying along. I’m actually on track to have the first draft done in June — and, yes, I’m well aware that June is only six weeks away! That’s where the rollercoaster of emotions comes in. I’m excited, scared, and completely overwhelmed all at once!
Luckily, though, I feel very organized this time around. I’ve got reasonable deadlines, and all of the research is starting to come to life. My editor has already read a few snippets, and despite my fears, he loved what he saw. Of course, since this is my third book, you would think I’d have the process down pat by now!
That doesn’t make me any less impatient, though. I would love to have a magic wand so that I could wave it around and magically have all of the work done. When I start to really feel impatient, I simply shake my head and say to myself, “You are an author now. This is serious business!”
And speaking of business, I’ve got to make sure that this third book performs as well as Dangerous and Diamond Geezer have. Every time I see an uplifting comment on Facebook or a great book review, I feel amazing, but I also know that I have some high standards to live up to.
As much as I’ve already accomplished, I still have one more dream — to walk through a bus station or an airport and see someone reading one of my books. Once that happens, all of my childhood wishes will have officially come true!
But I won’t get there without hard work, so off I go to do more writing!
