I’ve still got lots and lots of writing to do, but I’m on track to have the draft for my third book finished by the end of June. Even my editor agrees that I’m on track, so I know that my timeline is more than wishful thinking! Amazingly, I seem to thrive in organised chaos — and if you’ve been reading my blog over the past few months, you know that they’ve certainly been chaotic! I’ve still got a number of busy days to go, but I’m going to get there. I can feel it!
A big part of my motivation comes from you. People are always asking me about my third book and telling me how excited they are to see it. I wouldn’t trade the adrenaline that those comments provide for anything!
Still, though, my mind likes to play tricks on me. Despite all of my success with Dangerous and Diamond Geezer, I still have that nagging voice in my head that says I can’t do it again, that I can’t live up to the hype, and that I need to go out and get a “real” job.
My solution to the nagging voice? Plugging along and sprinting to the finish! I’m trying to be more structured than ever. I’m switching my phone off during writing time, I’m doing my best to stay off Facebook, and I’m working hard to ignore all of the distractions that come with working from home.
All of the hard work and self-discipline are worth it, though. After all, I know how good it feels to stand at the finish line!
