Most people go on holiday in an effort to get away from work. They shut off their computers, stop compulsively checking their smartphones every few minutes, and take some time to simply relax and enjoy their surroundings.
Me? I’m thinking of doing the exact opposite! I’m actually thinking of going on holiday so that I can get a ton of work done!
Since we last spoke, I’ve been hard at work on my third book. My editor has officially approved my outline, so all of the ideas I have about the plot are in order. Now, I have to start doing all of the writing that fills in the outline!
You’d think that I’d be able to concentrate best at my own desk, but my regular surroundings are causing too many distractions. For example, every time I check Facebook, I read about someone else who’s eagerly awaiting the third installment of the Taylor trilogy. I’m so excited (and thankful!) to have generated a buzz like this, but it also reminds me of all the work I have to do. After all of the success I’ve had with my first two books, the pressure is really starting to mount!
And that’s where the holiday comes in.
I really need to get some distraction-free writing done, so I’m going to take myself (and my laptop!) to a place that’s warm and sunny — where I can leave “regular life” behind and immerse myself in storytelling. I’d love to come back and say that all of the writing is finished, but I don’t think even the most tranquil of holidays will make it possible for me to get ALL of this work done!
I’m really looking forward to getting away and working. How many people can actually say that?! It just goes to show you how cool my job is!
